Friction improving coatings for cylinders / rollers / pulleys

Protective coverings of cylinders and rollers are subject to severe aging due to the permanent flexing work. Glued, shrunk-on or cold vulcanized rubber linings tend to seam or detach. Material sticking to it is also a permanent source of annoying malfunction. Conventional coatings cannot be repaired at all. In addition, designers wish to exert influence in the static and sliding friction values.

The coating is applied seamlessly and can thus not burst. Detachment is nearly impossible thanks to the enormous adhesion of up to 18 N/mm². Static friction values of my(0) = 0.7 guarantee secure actuation and transport – even with oily or dusty applications. Coating – even on spherical-shaped rollers – is possible without any problems in any desired layer thickness and color.

Detachment is nearly impossible thanks to the enormous adhesion of up to 18 N/mm² (2,600 psi). The coating of all forms of rollers is easily possible in almost all desired layer thicknesses and colors.

MetaLine Series 700 –

Sprayed MetaLine Series 700 coatings literally fit like a second skin. The coatings are seamless and cannot crack. Detachment is almost impossible due to the high adhesion of up to 18 N/mm² (2,600 psi). Consistently high static friction coefficients ensure reliable drive performance – even in oily, wet, or dusty applications. Particularly efficient for individual parts or small series because:

  • Variable static friction coefficients from µ(0) = 0.1 to 0.7
  • Non-marking traction properties
  • Partially compliant with pharmaceutical and food industry standards
  • Variable colors (8 standard colors)
  • Freely selectable layer thicknesses starting from 1 mm (40 mils)
  • Different degrees of hardness from 60 to 98 Shore A
  • Variable surface geometries / grains / textures
  • Electrically insulating / anti-static or ESD
  • Also for ball-shaped rollers
  • Suitable for sealing end faces
  • Repairable and recoatable

Paper roller coating – sprayed with MetaLine 795, professionally sanded, and then grooved. The entire recoating and subsequent processing were completed in less than one week. And what makes it special? The application took place practically next to the paper mill without any lengthy transport!
Structure coating – these 3-dimensional, structured roller coatings are useful when water, dust, or other friction-reducing foreign substances are present. The peaks take over the transport and the foreign substance is pushed into the recesses!
Roller coating – roller coated with 2 mm (80 mils) MetaLine 785 with drive flange attached. Seamless, available in 3 different Shore hardnesses, 3 different friction levels, almost any thickness, and almost any color. It doesn't get any more adaptable to the transport situation than this!
Paper feed roll coating – MetaLine 760 has successfully established itself in the repair coating of feed rolls in paper stack processing. Mechanical finishing is carried out to 3/1000 mm (0.04 mils). Only for absolute experts!
Friction lining – drive roller cast with MetaLine 785 (single piece) – overnight, it doesn't get any faster than that. Not an economical solution for series production, but a professional and extremely fast solution when the technical need is great!
Rope guide – a rope guide has two key functions - to prevent slippage and, above all, to protect the rope. MetaLine 785 prevents slippage at this guide pully and also protects the rope from wear!
Drive sprocket coating – MetaLine 795 was used to produce a drive sprocket with a casting weight of approx. 3 kg (6,6 lbs). This is not a classic spray coating, but rather a casting using a 3D printing mold. More precise results are not possible, and mechanical post-processing is not necessary!
Polyurethane roller coating – spray coating with the MetaLine Series 700 may not require any further mechanical finishing. Various static friction coefficients are available in FDA-compliant pharmaceutical quality!
Roller coating – MetaLine 785 in a uniform layer thickness of 3 mm (120 mils) on this diabolo roller. Sprayed, available in different electrical conductivities or electrically insulating. Color as desired
MetaLine 785 with a strong structure being applied to this ball-shaped roller, which by use of a rubber belt turns extremely heavy concrete blocks. Tremendous shearing forces are generated which have destroyed and disbonded natural rubber coatings quickly
Diabolo roller coating: Plastic is often too slippery – MetaLine surfaces help. A coating with MetaLine 785 increases friction and reduces damage to all objects that are guided and transported by the diabolo roller. A version with anti-static or ESD properties is also available!
Wire rope pulley coating – MetaLine 785 as a friction-enhancing protective coating on this triple rope guide. The layer thickness, coating hardness, and friction coefficients are variable and can be adapted to the respective application. Also suitable for idler pulleys!
Gravity roller coating: A 1.5 mm (60 mils) thick coating of MetaLine 795 on a gravity roller with non-stick properties underneath a concrete conveyor belt. The low friction combined with the dirt-repellent properties protects the belt and extends its service life!
Magnetic separator coating – MetaLine 785 serves as a wear protection coating on this magnetic roller used in raw material extraction. The metal-free MetaLine coating does not interfere with the magnetic field and protects the roller from damage
Drive roller covering – barrel-shaped rolls spray-coated with 2 mm (80 mils) MetaLine 760 without mechanical finishing. Static friction coefficient µ(0) = 0.7. Color and thickness freely selectable. Can be mechanically finished by machining or grinding. Grooves can be easily milled in!
Roller covers – MetaLine Series 700 coatings provide exceptional dynamic and load resistance, designed for peak performance in demanding cycles. Tailored for a smooth, consistent performance. Superior protection for roller cores against corrosion!

Cylinder coating – this 2 ton cylinder has been sprayed with MetaLine 760 onsite to the required accuracy - NO additional machining was needed
Conveyor roller coating – rolls used in corrosive environments often suffer from end face corrosion. This undermines the coating at the edge and causes it to peel off. Such problems can be permanently solved by coating with MetaLine Series 700 liquid roll coating: The end faces are coated seamlessly at the same time as the outer surfaces!
