Seawater filters are basically simple technical constructions whose function has an important meaning. Unfortunately, due to the simple design, technical carelessness in their manufacturing process occurs which leads to problems:
- sharp pipe sections are welded in instead of rounded water inlets
- the clearance to the filter insert is not observed
- the filter socket is undersized in form and dimension
- the flow-speed related requirements for corrosion protection are underestimated
The consequences are unavoidable: Vibrations cause fretting corrosion, the water flow gnaws at the edges and the filter sockets wears off. Nothing fits anymore and everyone is annoyed about the corrosion protective paint that should have prevented these problems. Design-related defects, however, cannot be solved by paint!
